Do we dance according to the square?
A personal dive into how I could visualise dance through the lens of a graphic designer. I had written a short story to accompany the visuals in this publication. There is an assortment of key words which we had to include in the publication. They also inspired each of the collages and gave me a starting point for the creative process.
As he finds our music. I stand with hesitation, a collective around me. Our positions strong with control. You are watching us dance seeing the illusion of our smiles and unison. Except you're missing the dependance we have on one another and the fatigue we seamlessly hide. Put us on any stage any size, we adapt. We cannot plan for the changes, they just happen. We’re moving not talking, I cannot even see her behind me. I have to trust them, our bodies connecting as one. The square gets bigger, the space between us increases. The circle gets smaller, we are more aware of one another’s presence. We feel utter freedom whilst dancing, no war could stop us. We suppress the anarchy of our lives by making our audience smile. They wish they could be up there with me, the hunger for an applause. Either that or a chance to feel just as free as I do.
